My Experiences

In this section I will write about noteworthy experiences that I had.

With certain breeds that have gold and silver colour variations, Dutch bantams included, you can cross a gold cockerel with a silver hen and the result will be silver if its a cock and gold if its a hen. This is known as sex linked gold-silver. There may be variations and exceptions to this rule such as a yellow partridge coloured chick rather than a silver one or a darker or lighter gold than standard.
Our gold partridge Dutch bantam cock was crossed with a silver Dutch hen and the offspring was a gold hen and a silver cock.
The silver cock is called Silver Shadow.
I compared a photo of a silver partridge Dutch cock and a yellow partridge and realized Silver Shadow was a yellow partridge Dutch bantam cock.

Eggs in incubator!

Monday 18th july.

All four eggs pipped, one hatched. Left in incubator to dry.

tuesday 19th july

Moved chick to brooder.

Two more hatched, one egg in the process.

In the afternoon, the last chick hatched.

They are queer, but cute. The firstborn is active and outgoing, and the others just want to sleep. One minute all are active and playing, and the next they collapse in exhaustion as thogh they could sleep forever.

How cute!!

7th october

All of the growers are now big and strong, two hens, two cockerels, beautiful little birds they are.
